Summer in
The Hague:
Art and (sand)sculptures
While writing this column, I look outside and have to conclude that summer has finally started. Nice, warm weather and lots of sun. Time to go outside and enjoy the many sights of The Hague. This summer there is a lovely selection of artistic possibilities. Can I interest you in a walk along some highlights?
For instance The Hague Sculpture 2010 from 17th of June until 14th of September. Stroll along the Lange Voorhout while enjoying the wonderful sculptures made by Manolo Valdés en Kim de Ruysscher. When you walk past Pulchri, please go in to enjoy “The choice of the public” exhibit from Artstart from the 10th of July until 28th of July. Artstart is a platform for young promising artists.
Back outside, it is a short walk to the Wild Wonders of Europe, on display from the 27th of May until 30th of August beside the Hofvijver. This collection contains some of the most beautiful photographs of wildlife and nature in Europe.
Now it is just a small walk to the Mauritshuis where The Young Vermeer paintings are shown until 22nd of August. For the first time the 3 earliest paintings of Vermeer are brought together, amongst the other beautiful works in this museum, including the famous “Girl with a pearl earring” from Vermeer.
Back outside you should finish your tour by viewing the sand sculptures opposite “Buitenhof” from the 20th of June until 27th of August. This year the theme is “Ode to Dutch masters”. And with the many restaurants and café’s situated on the square, you can finish with a lovely drink.
And should you have art at home, please don’t forget to have it properly valued and insured. Our advisors will be happy to give you more information about our valuables insurance.
