SIERAAD Art Fair in Amsterdam:
a highlight in jewellery art
On the international scene Dutch jewellery design scores remarkably high. The Netherlands have acknowledged artistic talents and every year new names are added to the list. How high the jewellery art standard is, will become evident to the public from November 4th - November 7th. Dutch jewellery artists and their international colleagues are the stars at SIERAAD Art Fair, which will be held in the characteristic Gashouder on the Amsterdam Westergasterrein.
Meet with young talent, top names and unique design Noblesse oblige. With its many talented and renowned jewellery designers The Netherlands also hosts an exceptional jewellery event. Every year in November jewellery designers from some 30 countries come to Amsterdam to present them- selves with their work to the public. SIERAAD Art Fair offers a tremendous opportunity for the young talented ones on the threshold of their careers as well as for established names who already exhibit their art in prominent galleries.
New this year is a presentation of Dutch top talent under the name ‘INSPIRATIONS’. From now on every year SIERAAD will give the floor to a number of renowned artists in the field of ‘couture jewellery’. Here they show how they have developed and deepened their art within a specific theme. Much more than trends, the authentic imagery of each artist forms a detailed vision which is translated into a piece of jewellery. For some the impact of human intervention in nature plays a central role, for others the inexhaustible wealth of the ornament, the power of memories and the past that is gone. SIERAAD Art Fair invites you to view the expressive power of the works of art of a.o. Evert Nijland, Willemijn de Greef, Hilde De Decker, Terhi Tolvanen and to meet the nominees and winners of the biennial international design contest New Traditional Jewellery, who will also be present on the first day of the fair.
See, feel and experience
SIERAAD Art fair is a mixture between a shop window and an art gallery, but without windowpanes or show cases forming barriers. Art in jewellery and accessories has to be experienced, touched and tried on. All objects at the fair are physically within reach of the visitors and the designers provide for each object d’art a personal explanation, being often a story of symbolism or special background. An advantage of the fair is that each object can be purchased directly from the designer, without an added commission on the price for a gallery or jeweller.
Half of the 220 jewellery artists participating in SIERAAD Art Fair come from abroad. A number of first-time participants come from Israel, Japan, Spain, Italy and there is a sizeable delegation from the United Kingdom and Germany. Idar Oberstein, the Mecca of gemstones, will be present with a colourful palette of gems. Highly topical since the more traditional precious metals and stones are going through a period of revival. Next to creative and totally new jewellery materials we find exciting new shapes and applications in gold, silver and precious stones.
