European School to open along Houtrustweg
The European School will open its doors along the Houtrustweg in 2012. This follows months of searching by the Municipality of The Hague and the Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation for a suitable location. Lessons start on 20 August 2012.
At the moment the building along the Houtrustweg houses a number of ROC Mondriaan health care training facilities. These facilities move to a new ROC Mondriaan building in Leidschenveen as from 1 April 2012.
European schools were conceived for the education of children of European Union employees. The opening of this school is in keeping with the international ambitions of the Municipality of The Hague and the school will be conveniently located in the International Zone amid many international institutions.
The European School of The Hague will be financed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Municipality of The Hague, and will be run by the Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation. The European Union will pay the school fees for children of European Union officials.
In August the school will launch the first three school years, i.e. the equivalent of the Dutch groep 1 and 2 as well as a groep 3 class. In coming years the European School of The Hague will grow into a fully-fledged school providing primary as well as secondary education.
The European School of The Hague will be set up by the Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation. This school board already runs a school in The Hague (The International School of The Hague) as well as schools in Wassenaar, Oegstgeest and Sassenheim and the Eerste Nederlandse Montessorischool (First Netherlands Montessori School) at Laan van Poot, with which the International School and the European School will collaborate closely.
Europe has nineteen European Schools in total, of which this one in The Hague will be one.
