International Rose Competition
Day of the Rose

The 50th International Rose Competition of The Hague will be held on Thursday, 8 July 2010 in Westbroekpark. Admission is free of charge. Some 350 rose species will be competing for prizes including the people’s choice award. Until 4 July everyone can vote for their favourite rose at the Westbroekpark rosary. The Day of the Rose will be held on 11 July.

Finest varieties of roses
The International Rose Competition is part of a series of competitions held across Europe at this time of the year. At several times during the year, a specialised jury judges the roses in the Westbroekpark on qualities such as colour, leaf, and petals. On the day of the competition, this jury will be joined by international experts to perform the final adjudication.

The competition categories are:
• floribunda roses
• hybrid tea roses
• park/shrub roses
• patio roses
• climbing roses

Gold, silver and bronze certificates are awarded in each category. The rose with the highest amount of points will be crowned the ‘Golden Rose of The Hague’.
The prizes for the winning roses will be presented by Deputy Mayor Sander Dekker (Finance and City Management) of
The Hague.

People’s choice
Until 4 July everyone can vote for their favourite rose at the Westbroekpark rosary. You can vote by filling out a voting form after strolling among the roses in Westbroekpark. This form is available at the entrance to the rosary at Westbroekpark or you can click hereunder on the form to download it. The completed forms can be deposited in the post box near the kiosk at the Kapelweg entrance.

Day of the Rose
The Day of the Rose in Westbroekpark will be on Sunday, 11 July from 10.00 to 16.00 hrs. Various stands will be on hand including the rose association and the Royal Horticultural Society of the Netherlands (KMTP). An extensive garden and plant exchange market will be held with roses and rose items as well as flower arrangement demonstrations. You can also get a tour of the park. Tea, coffee, scones and other delicious snacks will be served.

You can also take a guided boat ride with the Willemsvaart the whole day for just € 2.
