The Hague will welcome 1,400 top sailors from more than 90 countries during the Allianz Sailing World Championships this summer, as they compete for world titles in the 10 Olympic classes from 10 to 20 August. A mega operation, both ashore and on the 7 race courses at sea and 1 para-sailing course on the Braassemermeer. These world championships are also the main qualifying event for the Olympics, which will be held in Paris a year later.

"With Scheveningen, we have a location that guarantees spectacle," believes Dorian van Rijsselberghe. 'The utmost will soon be demanded of the competitors in all classes. The North Sea has proven to be a serious test for sailors before."

'All indications are that we are heading for a new high point in the history of Dutch competitive sailing'

Tournament director Dorian van Rijsselberghe

It is the sixth time these world championships, which take place every four years, have been held in their current form. At the last edition in Aarhus, Denmark, the Netherlands was the most successful country. And with eight gold, six silver and two bronze medals, the most successful country in this World Cup history.

The Hague has manifested itself as a global sailing city for years. This year, it also hosted the Youth World Sailing Championships and in the summer of 2023, The Ocean Race will also visit The Hague again. "The Hague is the sports city by the sea. That is why we are proud, after other major sporting events such as the North Sea Regatta, the Volvo Ocean Race and the World Youth Sailing Championship, to be the host city of the World Sailing Championship," said Mayor Jan van Zanen.

Festival at Sea

This summer, from 10 to 20 Augustus, the port of Scheveningen will be the centre of the Allianz Sailing World Championships and Festival at Sea. There is a lot to do and see on the different beaches and near the water, watch all the Olympic sailors preparing in the morning before they go out, activities for young and old, water sports fun, music and much more!
