With its annual projects, the National Youth Orchestra provides the springboard for young musical talent between the ages of 18 and 26. For the Winter Tour 2024, the orchestra, led by conductor Martin Sieghart, is putting Bruckner's magnum opus "the Ninth" and Elgar's highlight for cello on the lectern. After a period of proud British nationalism, Edward Elgar (1857-1934) musically expresses the feeling of defeat after the horrors of World War I with his 1919 Cello Concerto. It is also Elgar's last major composition, transparently orchestrated with a splendid role for the cello. With her passionate playing, Harriet Krijgh is the up-and-coming cello talent par excellence for interpreting the solo in this performance.
